Called Children
“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!”
1 John 3:1 · NKJV
John can barely contain it. Behold what manner of love. Stop and look at it, he says, because it is a strange and lavish kind of love. The Father did not merely pardon you and send you on your way. He named you. You should be called children of God.
There is a world of difference between being forgiven and being family. A judge can forgive a debt and never see you again. A father pulls you to the table and gives you his name. That is what God did. Not just a cleared record, but a place in the family.
So your relationship with God is not that of a defendant hoping the case stays closed. It is that of a child who belongs. Behold the love that made it so. He calls you His own, and the name is not on loan.
You are not merely forgiven. You are family. The Father calls you His child, and He means it.
