A Living Hope
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
1 Peter 1:3 · NKJV
Peter opens with worship, and no wonder. According to His abundant mercy, God has begotten us again to a living hope. Born again, not self-improved. And the doorway of that new birth is the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
A living hope is different from optimism. Optimism looks at circumstances and guesses. Living hope looks at an empty tomb and knows. Your hope breathes because Jesus does. It cannot die, because He already did, and He is alive forevermore.
Notice, too, what produced all of this: His abundant mercy. Not your potential. Not your trajectory. Mercy, in abundance, gave you a new birth and a hope that outlives everything trying to bury you.
You were born again into a hope that lives because Jesus lives. Nothing that happens today can kill it.
