You Have an Advocate

“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”

1 John 2:1 · NKJV

John writes so that we may not sin, and then immediately makes provision for the moment we do. If anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. Not we can hire one if we grovel enough. We have one, present tense, permanently.

And consider who your Advocate is: the righteous One Himself, the very Person who paid for the sin in question. Your defender is also your propitiation. The case was settled before it was filed. No accusation survives contact with the cross.

So when you stumble, do not run from the Father. Run to Him. There is no wrath waiting behind His door, only an Advocate who has never lost a case, and a Father who never stopped being yours.

Your failure does not open a case against you. Jesus Christ the righteous is your Advocate, and His work is finished.
