His Peace, Given
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
John 14:27 · NKJV
These are farewell words. Jesus is hours from the cross, and He is handing out an inheritance: peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not the world's version, which lasts as long as the circumstances do. His own peace, the settled heart of the Son who knows His Father.
Notice that the comfort comes after the gift. Let not your heart be troubled follows peace I give to you. He is not telling you to manufacture calm. He is telling you the calm is already yours, so your heart is free to let go of its trouble.
The world gives conditionally and takes back what it gives. Jesus gives the way grace always gives: fully, freely, forever. His peace is not on loan.
His peace is a gift already given, not a mood you must maintain. Receive it again today.
