Not Counting

“that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.”

2 Corinthians 5:19 · NKJV

Here is the heart of the gospel in one clause: God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them. Not imputing. Not entering the wrongs into the account. While humanity did its worst, God was making peace.

Reconciliation was God's project from start to finish. The world did not send a delegation asking for terms. God was in Christ, absorbing the offense, closing the ledger, opening His arms.

And He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Not the word of probation, or the word of surveillance. The message Christians carry is the announcement that peace has been made. And it starts with being at peace yourself.

God's ledger against you is closed. He was reconciling you, not recording you.
