For His Name's Sake

“I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name's sake.”

1 John 2:12 · NKJV

John wants believers to know settled, load-bearing things, and this is the first: forgiven. Not on probation. Forgiven.

But the anchor of the sentence is the reason. For His name's sake. Your forgiveness is tied to the honor of Jesus' own name, not to the quality of your repentance or the depth of your feelings about it. God forgave you in a way that puts His Son's reputation behind the verdict.

You know the moment. You did the thing again, the one you promised God you were done with. And before you can even pray, the math starts. Was I sorry enough? Did I mean it this time? Does it count if I feel numb about it? John answers all of it without stopping to address any of it. Your forgiveness never hung on those answers. It was settled by the worth of a Name that has never once been dishonored.

That is why it does not come undone on your bad days. If forgiveness rested on you, it would wobble. It rests on His name, and His name does not wobble.

Forgiven, for His name's sake. The verdict is as secure as the reputation of Jesus Himself.
