Reign in Life

“For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”

Romans 5:17 · NKJV

Paul is doing math here, and the math is lopsided on purpose.

One offense gave death its reign. But the answer is not merely equal to the problem. It is much more. Abundance of grace. The gift of righteousness. What came through Adam was subtraction; what came through Christ overflows.

Reigning in life does not look like a charmed week. It can look like someone finishing a double shift at nine at night, tired, behind on bills, and still not defined by any of it. The circumstances have a voice, but they do not have the throne. What rules that life is not the stack of unpaid envelopes on the counter. It is the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness, both received and neither one something the week can repossess. That is what reign means here: your life is named from above, not from the pile.

And notice the verb. You reign in life. Not survive it, not endure it under a cloud. This is not a promise that circumstances will arrange themselves for you. It is about who you are standing as, in the middle of whatever the day holds.

Grace came in abundance, not in rations. You live from an overflow you did not create.
