The Light Came On

“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

2 Corinthians 4:6 · NKJV

Paul reaches all the way back to Genesis to explain what happened to you.

Darkness did not cooperate at creation. It had no vote. God spoke and light was, and Paul says the same God did the same thing in your heart. You did not generate this. You woke up inside it.

Many believers remember the moment. A night at a youth retreat, a hospital chapel, a pew you had sat in for years, and suddenly Jesus was not an idea anymore. Others cannot point to a date at all. They only know the room is lit now and it used to be dark. Either way, the light is not yours to keep burning. You did not strike the match, and you are not the one keeping it lit. The God who spoke light into Genesis spoke it into you, and He does not take back what He speaks.

And notice where the light lands. In the face of Jesus Christ. Not on a doctrine, not on a program. On a face. What you came to see was a Person, and seeing Him is what changed the room.

The lights came on because God spoke, and what you see by them is the face of Jesus.
