Sons, Not Staff

“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”

Galatians 3:26 · NKJV

Paul has spent two chapters dismantling the idea that law-keeping produces standing, and this is where he lands. Sons. Present tense. All of you.

Sonship in Paul’s world was about inheritance and belonging, and he says every believer holds it. Through faith in Christ Jesus, which is to say through trust in Someone else’s finished work, not through a probation period you are still serving.

Watch how an employee acts after a mistake: the careful email, the hope that nobody noticed, the quiet calculation about whether this one goes in the file. Now watch a child who spills milk at the dinner table. There is a mess to clean up, and he helps clean it. But he does not wonder whether he still lives there. That is the difference Paul is drawing. Believers who relate to God like employees spend their lives managing their file. Sons clean up the milk and sit back down at the same table.

Employees can be let go. Children are born into a family and stay in it. If you have been relating to God as a worker hoping to keep the position, this verse quietly retires the whole arrangement.

You are family, not staff. Nobody gets fired out of a household.
